Understanding the Various Forms of Dhikr (By Sheikh-ul-Islam Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, may Allah protect him)
It has been explained that many things fall under the category of Dhikr (remembrance of Allah). Saying Subhan Allah wa Bihamdihi Subhan Allahil Azim, the third Kalimah, the fourth Kalimah, sending Durood (salutations upon the Prophet), seeking forgiveness (Istighfar)—all of these are part of Dhikr. Even Salah (prayer) is a form of Dhikr, recitation of the Qur’an is Dhikr, and making Dua (supplication) to Allah also falls under Dhikr.
Our respected Hazratwala, Dr. Abdul Hayy Arifi (Rahmatullah Alaihi), used to say, “Engage in conversations with Allah.” Talking to Allah means that if you are facing any situation, difficulty, worry, or concern, then say to Allah, “O Allah! I am facing this problem, what should I do? Show me the right path, ease my difficulty.”
Having such conversations with Allah is also considered Dhikr.
