The Special Importance of Taraweeh Prayer (Malfoozat of Shaykh al-Islam Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani)
My Hazrat, Hazrat Dr. Abdul Hai Arifi (may Allah sanctify his soul), used to say that in Taraweeh, Allah’s grace and mercy are such that every Momin is granted forty Chances of nearness to Allah each night. Taraweeh consists of twenty rak’ahs, and each rak’ah has two Sajdah, making a total of forty Sajdah.
Regarding Sajdah (prostration), it has been said that a person is never closer to ALLAH than when they are in the state of Sajdah. The highest station of nearness to Allah and the best means to attain that closeness is through Sajdah.
This is why the Quran says,
“Do Sajdah and be near to Me,”
meaning, when you place your forehead on the ground before Me, you are at your closest to Me.
