Increase in Nafl Ibadah and Quran Recitation During Ramadan (Malfoozat of Shaykh al-Islam Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani)
It was advised that in this blessed month of Ramadan, along with the obligatory (Fara’id) prayers, one should place extra focus on Nafl Ibadah. If one is not able to perform Tahajjud, Ishraq, Chasht, or Awabeen prayers during ordinary days, then they should make an effort to observe them during this month. Although Awabeen consists of six rak’ahs, there are narrations mentioning up to twenty rak’ahs. Similarly, there is no fixed number for the Ishraq and Chasht prayers, and one should recite the Quran as much as possible.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to revise the Quran with Jibreel (peace be upon him) during Ramadan. The recitation of the Quran should also be done properly, as the correct pronunciation of the letters (Tajweed) is an individual obligation (Fard-e-‘Ain) upon every Muslim.
