Nothing Happens by Chance: Mufti Taqi Usmani’s Insight on Divine Wisdom (Malfoozat of Shaykh al-Islam Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani)
It was advised that while various events happen to a person day and night, often, due to negligence, one might attribute these events to mere coincidence, saying, “It just happened by chance.” For example, someone might say, “I stepped out of my house and happened to meet a person who mentioned he was looking for an employee, and since I was available, he hired me.” They call it “coincidence,” but in reality, nothing in this universe happens by chance. This universe operates within a system of divine wisdom and planning.
If you met that person, it was not by coincidence; he was sent to meet you, and you were guided to meet him. This is Allah’s wisdom at work.
My respected father, Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi (may Allah sanctify his soul), used to say that when people today label something as “coincidental,” it is incorrect, for nothing in this universe happens without purpose or divine planning.
When we do not understand the cause or reason behind something, we simply say it happened “by chance.” However, the reality is that the One who created this universe is also managing it. Everything follows a firm, established system under His will, and not a single particle can move without His command.
Sometimes, when we cannot see the apparent cause of something, we mistakenly call it coincidence, whereas, in reality, it is Allah’s wisdom unfolding.
